The Golden Rings, formerly led by GM Vinny & now currently led by GM Rich Goldstein & AGM Money Mitch, are a Garage Division team that made their GFL debut before the start of GFL Year 3 to fill the vacancy left by former GFL 2 Champion Squid. The team was acquired by former GM Vinny (known at the time as Slugsanity/Slug) post GFL 3's draft, so while he did not have input on the redraft team he was acquiring, he made all the moves & line-ups necessary to finish their 1st regular season with a record of 9-4 and a playoff birth. GM Vinny/Slug & squad would face off against GM Medium & at the time AGM Gabe in the 1st Round of the Playoffs and were victorious by a score of 144.46-138.90. In the 2nd Round, GM Vinny/Slug would squeak by GM Seanny (coming off a 1st Round BYE) defeating them by a score of 156.36-155.72 to advance to the Championship Game in their 1st season. Their opponent in the Championship Game was GM Crumbs, an original Year 1 GM making his first appearance in the Championship as well. While it was a mostly back & forth game, GM Vinny came out on top in the end by a score of 163.84-140.76 - winning the GFL 3 Championship. A huge accomplishment & one that surprised the rest of the league, but well deserved after a great season.
Following the Championship season in GFL 3, GM Vinny/Slug returned for GFL's final redraft season & expansion to 10 teams - GFL Year 4. GM Vinny was able to draft his team on his own this time around, but unfortunately for the champs, GFL 4 went in the total opposite direction compared to the success in Year 3 - finishing with a regular season of 4-10, last in the Garage Division, missing the playoffs, and temporarily setting the record for worst start to a season in GFL history. Thankfully for the team though, GM Vinny was able to avoid the last place Poo Bowl altogether, defeating GM Seanny in the 1st Round of the Last Place Tournament and escaping any sort of punishment for the lackluster season.
With 1 Championship and 1 rough season behind them, GM Vinny/Slug announced in the off-season leading into GFL Year 5 (Dynasty Start-Up) that he'd be selling majority shares of the team to new GM Rich Goldstein who brought in his own personal help with Assistant GM Money Mitch. The two of them announced the teams official identity moving forward - The Golden Rings. With new majority ownership aboard, The Rings entered the GFL Year 5 Dynasty Start-Up draft and looked to bounce back fully, and successfully achieved that by finishing the regular season with a similar record to Year 3, 9-5 and a playoff birth. 3rd in the Garage Division. Once again with no 1st Round BYE, the Rings started off strong in the 1st Round defeating division rival Redzone (9-5) by a score of 154.94-134.18 and returning to the 2nd round, the Conference Championship. The Rings would go head to head with Garage Division Champion, Rickety Stool Co. (10-4), but would fall short of returning the the Championship, losing by a score of 191.72-151.18. A 4th place finish in the first year of Dynasty, GM Rich & AGM Mitch look to keep things positive heading forward.
The Golden Rings, coined "The Golden Bills" by GFL fans far and wide, kept the core in tact for GFL6 with the only key additions being Gabe Davis, and rookie Jordan Addison. Overshadowed by RSC's record breaking season, the Rings quietly got off to an 8-1 start before finishing 9-5, good for 3rd place in the Garage. They managed to outlast the Lobsters in round 1, but were overwhelmed by the Stool Co. in what was the the biggest postseason blowout in GFL history. Things may begin looking up for them in GFL7, though, as RSC presumably takes a small step back to build back up.
Around Week 4 of GFL 7, it was officially announced by Goldstein Enterprises that Rich Goldstein Jr was now running the team as lead owner & GM, and an investigation into Rich Sr's status began.
The Goldstein family and financial advisor Money Mitch spared no expense on their breathtaking new stadium, building it to hold the largest capacity of all our GFL stadiums. Located in The Shire, Middle Earth, the stadium sits floating on a man made island on a lake with only one way in or out; the golden bridge. I swear you can see this thing from space it's so big and shiny. Gold arched entrances, gold plated seats, I heard they even serve gold leaf burgers at the concession stands.
