Hail Gary, led by GM Gary, is a Basement Division team that made their GFL debut as one of our original 6 teams back in GFL Year 1 [2017] where they finished with a regular season record of 6-7. In the 1st round of the playoffs, they defeated GM Red by a score of 269.80-239.10 [2 Week Match-Up] and made it to the very first GFL Championship Game vs the Orangeville Ducks [DK]. They fell short and were not able to be the league's 1st Champion, but a solid start to their career nonetheless.
Gary followed up the Year 1 performance with an impressive 9-4 record in Year 2 following the league's first expansion [8 teams] but was not able to make it back to the Championship, losing in the 1st round to eventual Champion Shotgunnin' Squid.
In GFL Year 3, GM Gary & Hail Gary returned and missed the playoffs for the first time in their career due to tiebreakers and finishing with a record of 5-8. The infamous "at least i tried" season. They entered their first Poo Bowl vs Redzone but were thankfully were able to escape punishment by just 10 points.
The team returned for GFL Year 4, our final year of the Redraft Era & expansion to 10 teams, and once again failed to make the playoffs finishing with a record of 6-8. They managed to escape the Poo Bowl altogether once again.
Gary looked to bounce back strong for our first year of Dynasty in GFL Year 5, and boy did he. 2 great years, 2 bad years, and then it finally all clicked for GM Gary when he locked in and won it all. With a record of 9-5, Hail Gary was able to win the Basement Division for the first time, securing the 1st Round BYE, and defeating BTU [Gabe & Cheese] in the 2nd round in the playoffs by a score of 192.02-153.10. Then, led by Championship MVP WR Brandon Aiyuk, GM Gary & squad were able to beat Championship favorite Rickety Stool Co. [10-4] in the GFL 5 Championship Game by a score of 183.40-108.32.
They entered GFL6 as reigning champs, but the shine on that title started to wear off a little too quickly for their liking. In what became the GFL's worst championship run it back season since GM Slug after their GFL3 win, Gary finished dead last in the Basement division with a record of 5-9. To add insult to injury, they traded away their 1st Round pick midseason in an attempt to right the ship, a pick that would become the 1.03 for the Sloppiest Lobsters. Hail Gary enters Year 7 hoping to get back to their Championship ways they experienced in the first year of Dynasty. GM Gary would have the honor of inducting the first ever GFL Hall Of Fame inductee at the Year 7 Draft, QB Patrick Mahomes.
GFL7 was relatively quiet in terms of narratives for Hail Gary. Injuries and down years from key contributors such as Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Breece Hall, Ceedee Lamb and others caused HAIL to get off to a mediocre start to the season that lasted until around the trade deadline. At that point this team seemed to really hit their stride, winning enough games to pit themselves against their rival Orangeville Ducks in Week 14 for a win and get in "Round Zero" scenario. GM Gary and the gang came out on top, causing their Champ's Curse to continue for the Ducks and launching them into a Round 1 matchup against the Tuckahoe Turtles. Its not often you put up 200+ PTS and come out with an L, but that very thing happened to Hail Gary in Round 1, ending their season in a heartbreak. They'll look to regroup and find their way in the Basement in GFL8.
Hail Gary is based in the booming town of PC Plug, NY, who proudly sponsors the local stadium. PC Plug took ownership of the town (and stadium) after their booming business took off in 2022, allowing owner Gary to rule with an iron fist (all hail Gary). He employs more than half the town with his business, and they repay their glorious leader with weekly sellout crowds.
